About Nomos Watches

NOMOS watches began in an industry where some of the top watchmakers are a few hundred years old but a young upstart such as NOMOS Watches from Glashutte, Germany had to make a real splash to compete and keep up. After only 15 years in watchmaking NOMOS is already known to be the completely in-house watchmaking company; something very impressive for such a young company.

As a technologically independent watchmaker with full quality control, NOMOS employs 5th generation watchmakers and does all the actual watchmaking in-house at their manufacture in the small town of Glashutte, in the Saxony region of Germany just across the street from A. Lange & Sohne.

Nomos Glashütte has been around since 1990 and use only in-house movements since 2005. From the small town of Glashutte, they amassed over 130 awards. Some of their in-house calibers include the DUW 1001, a manual-wind movement with a power reserve indicator and an 84-hour power reserve. Their newer automatic DUW 3001 movement uses an in-house escapement, the Nomos Swing System.

Their own in-house design agency in located in their Berlin office and works around-the-clock to incorporate that uber-modern cosmopolitan look associated with the Bauhaus school of design and found in all of their watches. This is the "less-is-more" signature style of all their watches and makes a big impact by 'holding back' while most push the design as far as it'll go. NOMOS timepieces incorporate a clean minimalist look and from the outside looks up-to-the-minute and stylish while on the inside, employs age-old, time tested watchmaking traditions.

As a young watchmaker Nomos started introducing precious metals into their watches in 2013 in the Lambada and Lux collections. The unveiling of their DUW 3001 movement occurred in 2014 and can be found in the Neomatik series. The DUW 3001 is a self-winding movement which uses the new NOMOS Swing System; their very own in-house escapement. This super thin automatic movement stands at only 3.2mm tall. The new in-house escapement is being gradually incorporated into their various calibers.

NOMOS has a dozen collections or 'model families' with about 80 watch models between these various collections. Each of their wristwatches has a slick, purist look with clear and legible numerals making it a highly functional timepiece without the unnecessary ornamental bells and whistles.
